Snoop Lion, we hardly knew ya.

The artist formerly known as Snoop Lion, Snoop Dogg, and Snoop Doggy Dogg has rechristened himself “Snoopzilla” in preparation for the release of his upcoming album with Dam-Funk, “7 Days of Funk.”

The name Snoopzilla is an homage to funk legend and Parliament-Funkadelic member Bootsy Collins, who sometimes operated under the pseudonym “Bootzilla” and released a hit single by the same name.

“We’re babies of the Mothership,” Snoopzilla said in a news release. “I’ve had funk influences in my music my whole career. Dam-Funk is cold. He’s keeping the funk alive and I knew I had to get down with him.”
