A Simpsons Character Will Die This Season—Who Will it Be?

One major clue: the character is voiced by one of the show's several Emmy winners

Blame it on all the recent binge-viewing of Breaking Bad, but The Simpsons creators plan on killing a “regular character” in the forthcoming 25th season of the long-running animated series. Executive producer Al Jean teased the death in an interview with The Sun News, saying: “I’ll give you a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won’t say who it is.”

Don’t think too hard. As any greying Simpsonian is wont to explain, pretty much every major cast member has nabbed the famed golden statue at one time or another. This leaves the proverbial crime scene to include characters voiced by Nancy Cartwright (Bart), Dan Castellaneta (Homer, Grampa  Krusty,  Barney, and many others ), Julie Kavner (Marge), Hank Azaria (Apu, Chief Wiggum, Moe, among the two dozen ), Yeardley Smith (Lisa), Marcia Wallace (Edna Krabappel), Jackie Mason (Rabbi Krustofski), Kelsey Grammer (Sideshow Bob), and Anne Hathaway (Princess Penelope).

Surprisingly, Harry Shearer has never had the honor to thank Matt Groening and James L. Brooks onstage, meaning we won’t see the demise of Mr. Burns, Waylon Smithers, Reverend Lovejoy, Kent Brockman, Lenny, Principal Skinner, Otto Mann, Rainier Wolfcastle, and definitely not Ned Flanders. Phew. Who else was going to take care of Rod and Todd? (ICYMI: Their mother Maude passed away back in season 11.)

Other Springfielders who’ve shuffled off this mortal coil include: Bleeding Gums Murphy, Frank Grimes, Fat Tony, Marvin Monroe, and Homer’s mother Mona.

So, that leaves only about a hundred other characters to ponder over. If you’re the gambling type, we suggest you don’t put any money on Homer Simpson. Although, the Vegas odds on oft-forgotten Shelbyville Milhouse are startling high. Play to win, people. Play to win.

The Simpsons returns to FOX this Sunday, October 6th at 8:00 p.m. EST.

I hope it's Snake Jailbird, he's an evil person!

I hope they'll finally kill Krusty. I never liked him.

I say an unused character like Marge's mom.

The next 1s would be Comic Book Guy and Sideshow Bob, but not Bart, Lisa, Maggie, Marge, Homer, Grampa Simpson, Ned Flanders, Rod Flanders, Todd Flanders, Nelson Muntz, Jimbo, Dolph, Kearney or any other character.

Al Jean annouced that Mrs. K is not this season's death, and I'm guessing it's gonna be Grandpa who will die.

I know it will be Edna. Before she died I thought maybe soon they're going to kill Edna because they killed Maud and it could be the fact Ned is destined to have dead lovers. Now that she's died it WILL be her.

With the passing of Marcia Wallace announced, it seems it will no doubt be Mrs. Krabappel now.

I reckon it will be edna- they did say home ended up accidentally causing her death again in one of the future based episodes- and they did say the way the character dies is funny.

Mrs Krababble seen as though she married Ned then she dies then Ned will go crazy and question his religion Itchy or Scratchy or Poochy?

Abraham Simpson would be my guess before the clues: (1) Mona Simpson passed away recently; (2) He is a main character voiced by Dan Castellaneta who has won many awards; and (3) Wikipedia: "When they stop paying attention to him, he feigns his own death to recapture their attention". The occasion may be part of a tribute.

It's time to kill the whole thing while there's any hope for some of us to remember it somewhat fondly and not as a pathetic dragged out waste of screen time on life support. The generation that used to like the show has gradually outgrown it while the show itself has simultaneously lost its edge, and the new generation couldn't care less.

Its been 25 years, any actuary can tell you that someone should have died before now.

They killed off Dr. whoever during the movie.

Just another sign that the curtains are coming down soon.

Could be Sideshow Bob, could be Lenny or Carl...

Lisa makes the show!

Sideshow Bob had his run as a character...

Heck, Doris Grau died in 1999 or whenever and Lunchlady Doris is still around...

Actually, the show itself has had a good run.

I'm betting it will be a SHOCKER, and it will be Lisa that dies. :(

My guess is it will be Maude Flanders. You just watch...

My own preference is that a mass murderer shows up in town...kills everyone and the show ends.

This show has already caused the American people to lose a good portion of their intelligence.

And while the original Fat Tony died, don't we still have a Fat Tony?  My understanding is his cousin, Fit Tony, took over his cousin's operations, put on weight and soon became known as Fat Tony himself, indistinguishable from the original.

officially announced it will be barney and homer will have a break down and decide never to drink again aka 2 episodes later

@Charlotte♥Simpsons Writers confirmed they will have Edna leave Ned and Springfield Elementary. She will not be killed off. But they will retire her character. Whatever that means.

@badboygreek

She was not the character they were/are going to kill off but they will have to write her out in some way obviously.  Voices are recorded months in advance before the actual animation is done so her character will probably be around for a while longer.

No doubt they will write an especially poignant episode for her passing.

@gbgentleman - it's possible to enjoy a show for the inanity that it is while still having a brain to use afterward...  but is it our problem if others decide what is aired is real and not farcical?  Parents, educators, and others could be putting in a little more effort... oh, wait, when someone who isn't a parent tells a kid to grow up or whatever, the parents get all haughty and snotty and say it's nobody's business.  Oh dear, did one possible aspect to society's real problems just get typed out by me?  ;)

@gbgentleman And I suppose not watching the show isn't enough for you? I suppose dictating what others watch and like is important enough to read and comment on an article about a show you don't like? Control issues, anyone?

eagle11772
eagle11772

@gbgentleman Actually, it's one of the most intelligently written, and funniest shows in the past few decades.  Why else would it stil be going strong after 25 years ?  Can you name any other comedies that have been in production that long ?

@gbgentleman "This show has already caused the American people to lose a good portion of their intelligence."

as does reading articles like this, commenting on them, then reading others comments.  DOH!
