ABC is in the early stages of planning a spinoff series of Modern Family, its hit show that won a fourth Emmy this month for outstanding comedy, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
At the moment, the network is just mulling what a potential spinoff would look like, and nothing is concrete yet. Concepts being considered include a show about the character of fictional real estate agent Gil Thorpe, who has appeared as character Phil Dunphy’s nemesis.
Modern Family returned to the small screen Sept. 25 for its fifth season. Talk of a potential spinoff comes as other networks are making the similar decisions of their own, including AMC, which is moving forward with a spinoff of its hit show Breaking Bad — a prequel focused on lawyer Saul Goodman that will be called Better Call Saul.
