Actor Jon Hamm arrives on the red carpet for the 65th Emmy Awards

Ignore tabloid headlines saying that hunky Mad Men star Jon Hamm is suffering from throat cancer, coughing up blood and on his death bed. He’s just having routine vocal cord surgery.

“It’s a simple injury,” Hamm told the Associated Press Thursday. “Something that develops on your vocal cord from overuse because I talk a lot.”

Hamm told Jimmy Kimmel on Wednesday that the reports in the tabloids had been so scary that his sister had called him to ask if he was dying. “I’m fine,” he said.

Indeed, the scheduled routine outpatient procedure hasn’t slowed Hamm down. He presented with Alec Baldwin at the Emmys on Sunday, though he lost his own race for best actor to Jeff Daniels. But, Hamm said, he and Amy Poehler decided to throw a party for Emmy losers — in order to gain entry, winners had to leave their trophies at the door and make a $1,000 donation to charity.
