Famed TV host and news anchor Julie Chen came clean about an operation she underwent many years ago after bearing the brunt of a racist remark from an employer. On Wednesday, the host of The Talk disclosed that she went under the knife aged 25 after her boss at an Ohio TV station said she would never be a news anchor because of her facial features.

“He said ‘you will never be on this anchor desk because you’re Chinese,’” said Chen.

During Wednesday’s broadcast, the 43-year-old admitted that her career did accelerate after the cosmetic operation to widen her eyes, but conceded that she wondered, “if she gave into the man.” Nevertheless, Chen said she has no regrets about her decision and remains proud of her Chinese heritage.
