Westeros just got a little cooler — and it’s not just because winter is coming. As Entertainment Weekly reports, Icelandic band Sigur Rós will appear on the HBO series’fourth season, which is scheduled to return in early 2014. Band members Jónsi, Georg Hólm, and Orri Páll Dýrason are on the set of the show, currently shooting in Croatia. Game of Throne showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are huge Sigur Rós fans and, according to EW, would listen to their albums while the show was shooting scenes in Iceland.

Sigur Rós aren’t the first musicians to be conscripted into the show’s ranks. Coldplay’s drummer, Will Champion, made a cameo appearance (as what else?, a drummer) on the fantasy show’s third season, in which Snow Patrol’s lead singer Gary Lightbody also had a small role.

Musicians aren’t just used as actors, though. Game of Thrones frequently enlists well-known bands for their popular soundtrack albums. The National contributed a song called “Castamere” and The Hold Steady performed a song called “The Bear and the Maiden Fair”, with lyrics from Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin and music by Got Composer Ramin Djawadi. The song was released on a 7″ for Record Store Day.

It’s been a big television year for Sigur Rós. The band was also featured on “The Simpsons” back in May in an episode titled “The Saga of Carl.”

As for the guys in the band, let’s hope their characters meet a happier fate than the one met by Marillion.
