Star Trek Crew Encounters…Miley Cyrus

A pair of 'Trek'-related clips are circulating online—set phasers to Fun

In two Trek-related videos circulating online, we see not only the cast of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness having a little fun, but the crew of the USS Enterprise in a frightening encounter with Miley Cyrus.

The more topical of the two is a video by AriesHeadFilms, which throws Cyrus’ recent VMA performance onto the bridge of the original TV series Enterprise and cuts in wonderfully astonished reactions from Mr. Spock (“I have never encountered readings like this before”) and the rest of the crew. When Kirk slowly asks “What is that?” and begs Lt. Uhura to “Try another channel” we can’t all help but agree. After much too much of the on-screen gyrations, the crew simply can’t handle it anymore and does what is only natural.

In the second video (above), geek hero Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty in the two most recent films, actually convinces some of his more gullible co-stars they must use a special “neutron cream” to shield them against ions and other harmful radiation while on set. (The Blu-ray for Star Trek Into Darkness is in store on Sept. 10, this behind-the-scenes gag will likely be included among the bonus features.)

Pegg certainly proves his acting chops as we see the stars oblige, dolloping dots of the cream on their noses, cheeks, foreheads and wrists. The video shows Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, John Cho, Karl Urban and Benedict Cumberbatch all getting the Punk’d treatment. Here at TIME Entertainment, we love the Cumberbatch gag the best.
