The relatively low-profile actors Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam are set to star in the upcoming movie adaptation of the popular erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey.

The casting news, revealed in Monday Twitter posts by the author of the novel, are the first sneak peek into the coming series of films based on the international best-selling series by E.L. James. Neither actor has been a lead in a major film to date. Johnson has previously had minor roles in The Social Network and 21 Jump Street. She also played the lead-role of Kate in the short-lived comedy series Ben and Kate. Hunnam currently stars as Jax Teller on the FX series Sons of Anarchy.

Industry insiders have speculated for months over who would secure two of the most coveted roles in Hollywood. Emma Watson, Shailene Woodley and Analeigh Tipton were all rumored for the lead female role of Anastasia, an innocent college student who enters into a lewd relationship with Grey. Robert Pattinson, Armie Hammer and True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgard were rumored to be in contention for the roles of Grey.

Johnson and Hunnam will presumably sign on for films based on all three books.

I hope the leads that have been cast ruin the story for you. I also doubt that will happen... There was a campaign when Robert Pattinson was cast as Edward Cullen. You'll get over it and end up hounding this guy just like paparazzi and fans still hound Robert.

How do you suppose ’50 Shades of Grey’ was inspired by Twilight? Here is the explanation: hub.me/afKNf. Stephenie Meyer should be ashamed of herself. She should apologize to the world and her fans. Every single biotch obsessed with this stupid book is an embarrassment to the female gender. Stop acting like a bunch of hussies in heat.

@TIME @speedbyname Ooh! Have you read it Lesley, I've only read one page in the supermarket and was embarrassed when my neighbour saw me! ;)

I am very disappointed in this casting, Neither of these actors look like the characters in the book, I can't believe E.L.James who wrote the books with Henry Cavill in mind as Christian would agree with these choices.  Charlie Hunnan is a very good actor, I like him in SOA. But he is the not the  perfect looking specimen of a man that Christian Grey is supposed to be. I was so looking forward to this film, until now.

It is going to be an interesting movie---------tho, it cannot be nearly as interesting as what the books were.  If you play it just like the books, you will have an XXX rated movie and not a lot of people will see it.

Sons of Anarchy is an excellent show and Charlie deserves to move on. the show should have been emmy nominated for several years for Katie Segal especially, then maybe he would have been on the A list. Jimmy Smits has done a great job as well.

@Rosie She did not write it with Henry Cavil in mind.  It was a twilight fanfic, so in her mind as she wrote it was Rob's Edward that she had in mind.
