Dave Chappelle walked away, again.

The comedian, who shocked the entertainment world in 2005 when he quit his hit Chappelle Show midway through production of its third season, walked out of a performance Thursday night because of a reportedly loud and heckling crowd, according to NBC local news.

Chappelle was headlining the Funny or Die Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Tour in Hartford, Conn. in what was supposed to be a major comeback for the onetime comic mega star.

Instead, he spent 25 minutes sitting on a stool reading—and remarking to the crowd that he was still getting paid—before walking out.

TIME spoke with Chappelle on his trip to South Africa in 2005, after he left his show. “Let me tell you the things I can do here which I can’t at home: think, eat, sleep, laugh. I’m an introspective dude. I enjoy my own thoughts sometimes,” he said then.
