Miley Cyrus arrives at the 2013 MTV VMA Awards red carpet at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 25, 2013.

A mother’s open letter to her daughter begging her not to turn out like Miley Cyrus went viral this week, with 2.5 million views in its first 36 hours, according to a follow-up blog post.

Kim Keller, of Frisco, Texas, wrote in the letter posted on her blog Monday, “Yes, this is what happens when you constantly hear everything you do is awesome. This is what happens when people fawn over your every Tweet and Instagram photo. This is what happens when no responsible adult has ever said the word ‘no,’ made you change your clothes before leaving the house, or never spanked your butt for deliberate defiance.”

Keller, who told ABC that her daughter had grown up watching Cyrus on Hannah Montana, voiced the concerns that many parents shared about Cyrus’s controversial performance at MTV’s Video Music Awards. “If you ever even consider doing something like that, I promise you that I will run up and twerk so you will see how ridiculous twerking looks,” she wrote, “I will duct tape your mouth shut so your tongue doesn’t hang out like an overheated hound dog.”

But not all parents are as appalled as Keller. On Wednesday, Cyrus tweeted a quote from her own father, Billy Ray Cyrus: “‘Mile, if twerkin woulda been invented…. And I had a foam finger…. I woulda done the same thang you did.’”

Entertainment is not a substitute for real parenting. Talk to your kid. It's 2013 no one is writing letters.

She is a weirdo, all of a sudden she just turned into a weird person that I wouldn't want to be caught dead even standing by her side. She is by definition "trying too hard" and she will likely get support from other artists in the industry just for a touch of the "Miley train" fame and fans. I would never let any of my sons date a crazy, sketchy, weirdo, with such low class and zero values. BTW nothing hot about her, she looks like a boy, with "chicklets" teeth, lol... Busted! Lanky, long fingers, huge man feet, ugly shoulders, and that's just the outside... ROFLMAO!!!

Clearly Miley has gotten her first taste of The D and now she is in that stage where she thinks she's hot shxt and everyone wants her putang. Newsflash Miley: Your Putang is not golden. It stinks like any other woman's pu'ss. Spreading your legs or cheeks for the D isn't unique or special..we all can do it.

Also, from a musical point of view- there'a absolutely no innovation on music, lyrics, performance, etc - again, just the next lucky fool.

Someone call James Cameron, the bar has to be raised again.

Everyone seems to miss the point...

If I walk into a strip club I'm pretty sure of what I've signed up for.

If I walk, with my kids, into a Disney store and go like "hey look at that little girl, she looks just like my daughter, and she seems to like her" to later watch her grow into yet another controversial media monster who pulls a bait and switch, yeah, I'm going to point that out.

Now I'm the kind of person that believes people should be able to do what they want with their lives, but this pattern of good girl gone bad never ends up well: forget the music industry, forget the role models, where is Britney Spears now? where is Christina Aguilera now? replaced.

Parents were saying the same exact things about Elvis Presley...you know, the King of rock and roll. heh

Give me a break. Is this woman too idiotic to realize that Cyrus' performance isn't "real life"?? It's a carefully staged PERFORMANCE, similar to acting, that was created by her management team and publicity agency to re-brand her as a grown-up artist.

“If you ever even consider doing something like that, I promise you that I will run up and twerk so you will see how ridiculous twerking looks." So....she's worried her daughter will create a carefully planned re-branding campaign and perform at the MTV Vma's?

All of us in Puerto Rico cracked up when Miley was supposedly twerking. Miley DOES NOT know how to twerk. She needs a puertorican friend to teach her...

Hilarious. Miley twerks all the way to the bank while more than 2 million americans - mostly women - retain their dignity and integrity working for below minimum wage ( United States Bureau of labor statistics 2011 ) She keeps her clothes on and doesn't perform actual sex acts...and I wouldn't judge her if she did. She is a celebrity.  The quality of the music/art has nothing to do with making a living as a celebrity. On a technical level you can find kids in every town who can perform on the "level" of any gagaperrycyrusgomezbeiber... Celebrities sex it up...or are just naturally beautiful because just making brilliant art doesn't keep anyone's attention - even if everyone had the education and the ability to perceive it in the first place. I won't be smacking my kid around anytime soon to keep her from becoming a Miley Cyrus. Miley is not really ugly, really untalented, really uninteresting...I'm glad my kid is healthy and loves me. I'd be really really proud if she was my daughter.

She's hot. She's worth $100 million. She's fun. She's famous. She's talented. And people are warning their daughters not be like her? Do me a favor.

Marginally talented performers such as Cyrus routinely need to supplement their limited abilities as an artist with on-stage theatrics intended to shock the audience and outrageous behavior in their personal lives intended to keep them in the media spotlight.

Folks, stop with the non-sense, name calling and finger pointing. When celebs do things we do not like; I stop purchasing their music, stop purchasing their concert and movie tickets. You have to let them know you disapprove. Yet parents are all appalled, but these same parents are going to purchase their daughters her music and concert tickets.

So where was all the outrage about the other performers who did offensive things at the VMAs? How about Robin Thicke, who openly implied that he wanted to have sex with a girl half his age, whether she wanted it or not?....Lady Gaga was doing sexually suggestive stuff onstage at age 23, Kesha at 24. Madonna told the world she wasn't a virgin at 26.  So why is everyone losing their mind over Cyrus, who is 20?

As a parent I am very disappointed that her parents think that her behavior was appropriate. I feel that it is a good thing for a young woman to express herself- but she was not expressing herself she was just plain vulgar. If her parents feel that she did great they really need to wake up. Miley she needs to have better people around her obviously her parents will not give her the proper guidance she needs. A good friend would have told her that her act was degrading and vulgar she needs to think that showmanship is about keeping the audience asking for more and to preform and give here best show not shock value. This separates the true great artist from the one time wonders or the wannabes.

Let me get this straight. Billy Ray said this: "Mile, if twerkin woulda been invented…. And I had a foam finger…. I woulda done the same thang you did." So, other than confirming his inability to write coherent English, he is proudly announcing that he is just as stupid and low-class as the vulgar young woman he raised? He's proud of her? I don't get it. But more importantly, in what realm of the imagination is Miley "entertaining" -- unless the music business has now become the porno business? I always find it interesting that women like Miley or Rhianna or Lady Gaga feel that the more clothes they take off, the better they become. Ladies: I hate to break it to you, but the less clothes you wear does not translate into "more talent." At any rate, Miley Cyrus has single-handedly completely and fully turned me off from the music business. If people want to watch her flabby white ass bouncing around while she plays with Robin Thicke's crotch with a foam finger, and if that is what now qualifies as pop music and a pop music performance, then, it's all yours. I'm no longer sure why I dedicated my life to learning how to play an instrument and to write music, only so that the entire industry can be reduced to the pathetic desperate attention-getting disaster known as "Miley Cyrus."

The greater concern goes beyond Miley Cyrus for she would not exist as she does if not for her fans.

Miley was just trying to prove her point: It's our party we can do what we want. Why did it go wrong? It wasn't actually her party.

My heart goes out to Miley Cyrus, she's been a cash cow since early childhood and her handlers have given her no concept of grace, dignity or moral guidance: I thought the white slave trade was illegal in the US, but obviously I was wrong.

@DJAnnMo They failed at rebranding her to be an adult then. An adult wouldn't act like nympho running around on stage with her twat and mouth gaping begging for a dxck to be shoved in it.

@RegCor hot, worth, talented...  you keep using those words, I don't think they mean what you think they mean.

Miley can be replaced by any other "teen star", there's no REAL intrinsic value in what she does.  She's just the next lucky fool and will be replaced the same way spears, lohan, aguilera (who actually could sing)  et all.

@DarlieB

Neither is Billy Ray's daughter. Miley is cute and petite and became Hannah Montana. But what has she done lately? This is not counting her rather sad attempt for attention at the awards show - more silly than shocking. Miley is not educated and, like Lohan, Britney and the others, will hang around the entertainment industry doing desperate things until people say, Meh."

@DonThe-DadEvans     I think I can get inside your head "Dad" and any other man that thought that this was just pure "fun".  As for her "being herself"....yes, she was indeed, but so are perverts when they molest.....it's not always a GOOD THING to be yourself, especially in front of the whole world.

@silverose   She was saying "it's my house" and it wasn't her house.  What she did on that stage was something that should have had an R rating.
