Even if we aren’t clamoring for Lady Gaga’s new single, “Applause,” MTV is betting we want to take a glimpse of the controversial singer anyway, adding her to the roster of stars set to perform at the Aug. 25 MTV Video Music Awards.

But performing at the VMAs may just allow “Mother Monster” another chance to lose a feud with Katy Perry, who will also perform at the show and whose new single, “Roar,” outperformed Gaga’s in both of their first week.

Billboard figures Perry sold around 400,000 in week one, while Lady Gaga — projected to hit that mark originally — was likely closer to half that number. Score one for Perry.

Maybe that’s a reason Lady Gaga took to Twitter over the weekend to start a feud she could win, with onetime friend and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton. After Hilton was spotted in the lobby of her New York City apartment building, she lashed out in a now deleted tweet claiming Hilton was stalking her, prompting the blogger to receive death threats from Lady Gaga’s most ardent supporters.

Hilton, for his part, says he’s now a critic of Lady Gaga but certainly not a stalker, and asked for the threats to stop. With a history of angst between the two, this story continues to climb up the list of oddball feuds.

Of course, Lady Gaga actually left off any oddball-type list seems more a story at this point in her career.
