Michelle Obama is releasing a hip hop album. And, no, you won’t hear her dropping any rhymes.

In her continuing efforts to fight childhood obesity through her “Let’s Move!” campaign, the First Lady has partnered with Partnership for a Healthier America and the Hip Hop Public Health Foundation to release a 19-song compilation album to encourage kids to exercise and make healthy food choices.

Artists like Run DMC, Ashanti, Doug E. Fresh, Monifah and American Idol winner Jordin Sparks are all contributing their vocal talents to the album, which is called Songs for a Healthier America. Also featured on the album are Matisyahu, Ariana Grande and Blink-182’s Travis Barker, working under the moniker Salad Bar. The New York Knicks’ Iman Schumpert and Nils Lofgren of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band also contribute.

The album features tracks with names like “We Like Vegetables,” “Veggie Luv,” “Get Up Sit Up” and “U R What You Eat,” all designed to get kids thinking about health and diet. Ten music videos are set to be released with the album and will be distributed to schools in New York City, with other major cities to follow.

While Mrs. Obama isn’t rapping on the record, she will appear in videos for the album’s singles, the first of which is out now. Watch the video for “Everybody” featuring Jordin Sparks, Doug E. Fresh, Dr. Oz, the Hip Hop Doc and an appearance by the First Lady:

How many American tax dollars are going to this over spending woman to make this album? I am so tired of this lady who has not had an original idea.

If she wants to stimulate  healthier young people, TEACH them and their parents how to eat right. If there is a partnership between the children and parents to eat healthier, the winners are both generations. Let's Move doesn't help if the fuel you use is bad.

@MaryBethCasey "has partnered with Partnership for a Healthier America and the Hip Hop Public Health Foundation" -- that's where the funds for this are coming from. And I presume that the artists involved contribute to it voluntarily.

Teaching them is exactly what they're trying to do. The question is in how you present this material so kids actually bother listening to it. Good luck trying to achieve that with a finger-wag book these days. If they are more likely to listen to this information and think about the issues when they are presented to them as lyrics on a music album, why not do that?

How many children overseas has her hubby killed with his drone strikes?   180?   200?   Just curious.

Have a carrot stick and another drink of your kale smoothie, mariac; you won't seem so confused to yourself when it comes to the value of a healthy diet and the good sense, economic and otherwise, of educating children about what's good for them to eat and what is not.. Seriously, mariac, do a little survey for yourself and see if you can actually find some meaningful evidence that eating healthy is bad for kids. Report back here with your results. That said, student loan reform, right on;

I bet it will be the greatest hip hop album ever produced, until Barrack produces HIS. . .

Why are there only African American children displayed? Every race is affected by childhood obesity and her videos should encourage everyone to get fit, not just one subset of the population...

What a joke...MO doing a children's Hip-Hop Album? Typical. Why doesn't she just go on Sesame Street (like many other famous people  have done and get her message across that way). Typical liberal...talk the talk, and make lots of $$$ duping the American people. She is always trying to cash in at the expense of children (her life's work, she says). Poor Obama kids probably eat tofu and veggies everyday, no wonder these girls are rail thin? I guess she has to have something to do with her time other than shopping and taking $2 million dollar vacations, all on the tab of US taxpayers. US citizens pay for her to have fun. Gosh! Why not concentrate on something else important to taxpayers and regular citizens...like student loan reform. We, the adults are paying, not little kids.

@mariac67 She has been on Sesame Street multiple times talking about Lets Move, yet has innovatively decided to do something that folks like you hate...something new.
