You’d think witnessing a murder would be an awfully traumatic experience for a little boy. But for eight-year-old Devon Butler (Norman D. Golden II), it’s an excuse to indulge his cop fantasies. When grouchy old sleuth Nick McKenna (Burt Reynolds) comes along to get information from him, the boy refuses to spill unless he gets to ride along with Nick as a partner.
Incredibly, instead of busting the tyke for obstruction of justice, he goes along with this child-endangerment-lawsuit-waiting-to-happen plan. Reynolds is am awfully good sport, even if Nick isn’t, while Golden is trying so hard to be adorable that it’s a wonder he doesn’t start singing “Tomorrow.” The director is Henry Winkler, but it’s hard to imagine that even Fonzie would give this movie two thumbs up.
