Few recent presidencies can match the aura of mystery that—for worse rather than better, in this case—surrounds Richard Nixon’s time as chief executive. Now, a new documentary aims to shed some light on what it was like to be in the Nixon White House. The film uses archival footage shot on Super 8 home-movie cameras by three of Nixon’s top aides—H.R. Haldeman, John Ehrlichman and Dwight Chapin, all of whom would serve time for their involvement in the Watergate scandal. The film was seized by the FBI, and only recently been rediscovered. Along with historical events, including the moon landing, Tricia Nixon’s White House wedding and the President’s visit to China, the home-movie footage captures many smaller moments, like Haldeman riding a bicycle at Camp David.

TIME has the premiere of the new trailer for Our Nixon—as well as the poster, seen below.

Our Nixon opens in limited release on Aug. 30 and will premiere on CNN on Aug. 1.
