I wanted to love The Phantom Menace.  I didn't.

I wanted to feel the same exhilaration and fun that I felt while watching the original trilogy movies.  I didn't.

I wanted the movie to have the same same atmosphere of mystery and new things and suspense and tension, as well as lovable characters.  It didn't.

But Lucas didn't stop there.  He had to go and remake the beloved original trilogy movies with the same, cold, uninteresting features that we hated in the prequels.  Right up to the end.  Even changing the "old" Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan, and replacing them with their "younger" versions in the final scenes of Return Of The Jedi.  That was the beginning of the end of my admiration of George Lucas.

And he still didn't stop there.   He forbid the sale of any of the original trilogy movies WITHOUT the changes, so we don't even have a choice to watch the originals as they were first filmed or the new "improved" versions.

And that was the last straw in my admiration of George Lucas.

George, don't fix what isn't broken.

Unless it is those prequels you made.  You could tamper with, and change, and mix them up til the cows come home, but you will still end up with manure.

When Indiana Jones and the Lost Crystal Skull opened in NYC, I ran into Paul McCartney and his then girlfriend Nancy Shevell at NY's  Ziegfeld Theater. During this brief encounter, I suggested that the movie we had just seen was validation of The Beatles decision not to re-unite the boys one last time -

Leia smooched Han in Episode V, not IV.

I'm sick of people comparing Lucas' missteps with the prequels and constant retooling of the original trilogy as "raping their childhood".  That's a trivialization of a violent sexual act and an insult to rape victims.

So, if you don't like what Lucas did, stop watching the films, but don't compare yourself to the victim of a violent crime

Star Wars Movies have sucked, the acting has been garbage, the dialog garbage the cheap attempts to sell toys embarrassing. There have been 2 good movies, and that's it. The rest utter a complete garbage. Of course Fanboys will rush to cry and moan at this reality.

Call me crazy but I loved all 6 SW movies and most of the books. They were entertaining, imaginative and the original trilogy was groundbreaking. Yes, I too would rather have seen the big battle in ROTJ take place on the Wookie homeworld but the Ewoks were a demonstration of the fact that you don't have to be big and bad to accomplish great things. Was Jar Jar a little corny? Sure, but he provided good balance to the otherwise very tense plot.

I look forward to the next 3 SW movies and will have no second thoughts about seeing them.

There weren't many complaints about the Zahn novels or Dark Empire when those came out. Abrams has ready made fodder to work off of to redeem the franchise.

I agree with all the other comments. All of the Star Wars movies have provided awe inspiring images and experiences for all ages. For a writer to trash Mr. Lucas and his ingenious creativity causes me to believe gary susman only wants to make a quick buck on the Star Wars franchise since he could not write anything else worthwhile.

Besides Walt Disney can anyone name any other artist in the past 100 years that has had more of an impact then George Lucas? This article should be 10 reasons why everyone should bend over, pucker up and kiss George's moon of Endor for his contribution to American cinema and pop culture. Another thing to ponder about is Lucas has influenced so many artists that we have yet to see what the next fifty years will bring as a result of his imagination.

Have you read any of the star wars books? they are amazing and grow the universe into something bigger than just the skywalker lineage that the movies are based around.  There can't be any person who actually knows something about stories that agrees with this.

I think Gary Susman should have quit writing... forever ago. That moronic, talentless hack. Viva George Lucas.

"So why not build an identical one, with the same apparent design flaw that leaves it vulnerable to instant destruction by a well-aimed torpedo?"

Not quite.  If it had been completed, that exhaust port would've been a lot smaller.

Im sorry i thought you were listing bad thing about star wars

Sabastian shaw was replaced because he was 60 something years old when he did his ghost scene and anakin was like 30 when he turned evil

Lucas has said plenty of times it was the good side he wanted to show

@JeffreyVeregge I can name four right off the top of my head: John, Paul, George, and Ringo.

Then, of course, there's Steven Spielberg, arguably our greatest film director of the latter half of the 20th century, with the single exception of Alfred Hitchcock. Spielberg's  accomplishments in comedy, drama, adventure, historical drama, and generalfamily entertainment far surpasses what his friend Lucas has accomplished, in overall scope and quality.

@JohnCrisp Except Luke wouldn't recognize his 30 year old father, you stupid idiot.
