Fuji Rock takes place in the so-called Japanese Alps, at the beautiful Naeba Ski Resort situated on the base of Mount Takenoko. To protect the pristinely picturesque surroundings, the festival is a clean green machine, with “respect for nature” as one of its central tenets and elaborate on-site recycling to prove it.
The three-day festival features more than 200 musicians, including headliners Nine Inch Nails, Bjork and the Cure (playing alongside drum-circle denizens) and an amateurs-only stage called “Rookie a Go-Go.” If rock isn’t your thing, the festival’s 13 stages sprinkled over the mountaintop have something for music fans of every stripe, including, EDM superstar Skrillex, dubstep acts like Feed Me, Malian band Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba and 90s songstress Suzanne Vega.
