Registry: USS Enterprise / NCC 1701 E
First Seen On: Star Trek: First Contact (movie: 1996)
Probably the slickest member of the family, the E-version is the largest of all the Enterprises. Some complained that it was almost too cool: Where was the characteristic Star Trek quirkiness in this dart-like space cruiser? Yet others viewed it as as a return to form: The E had ditched the luxury liner interior of the Enterprise D — it was darker, moodier and looked like it could kick some ass. And kick ass it did. This ship helped defeat Borg plans to conquer Earth, and according to official Trek canon is still out there, boldly going on.
Leave it to Trekkies to go beyond the official canon: it’s not hard to find fan-made versions of its imaginary successors, the Enterprise F, Enterprise G and the Enterprise J (the last of which isn’t actually theoretical and can be seen as a schematic, briefly, in an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise.)
