Look out, aliens: the trailer for the upcoming movie adaptation of the beloved sci-fi bestseller Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card, was just released in a Google+ hangout.

Starring Asa Butterfield (Hugo, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas) as the gifted young Ender—who lives in a world where the species’ future rests on some very tiny shoulders—the movie has high expectations with which to contend. Although its author has recently come under fire for taking a stance against marriage equality—a Superman story he wrote won’t be released for that reason—his opus, along with the rest of the books in the extensive Ender saga, has passionate fans who have long contended that the story’s complicated world couldn’t be successfully brought to the big screen.

The star-studded cast also includes Ben Kingsley as Mazer Rackham, Harrison Ford as Hyrum Graff, Abigail Breslin as Valentine, Hailee Steinfeld at Petra Arkanian and Voila Davis as Gwen Anderson. Film newcomer Aramis Knight plays Bean. The trailer doesn’t give much away, plot-wise, so we won’t either.

Ender’s Game is due in theaters on Nov. 1, 2013.
