Today’s Movie Trailer: The New Carrie

Chloë Grace Moretz steps into the role made famous by Sissy Spacek

Well, one day after we declared the latest trailer for this May’s The Great Gatsby as perhaps the most spoiler-filled movie preview ever, we have a new contender. The new trailer for the Carrie remake — starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore in the roles originated by Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie in the 1976 horror classic — gives away pretty much everything.

But, as with Gatsby, it’s also fairly difficult to care: Carrie has entered our pop-culture through a monster bestseller, two movies, and a Broadway musical. Don’t you already know what happens?

Besides, the original 1976 trailer gives away almost all of the same details. There’s the prom, the creepy religion stuff, Carrie’s discoveries about herself, the bucket of blood. A few lines of dialogue even appear almost exactly verbatim in both trailers: “If I concentrate hard enough I can move things” and “If you don’t have a date to the prom next Friday, would you like to go with me?” Practically the only thing they don’t share is the 1976 trailer’s ability to boast that the movie was John Travolta’s first big-screen role.

Carrie comes out Oct. 18, 2013.

I agree.. the original was SO well done that there are definitely some big shoes to fill.  I'm still looking forward to checking it out though.  I'm a sucker for those kind of flicks.  Thanks for the trailer!  I never see a movie without viewing them first.. fyi.. found some other great sites for viewing the newest trailers here too: http://www.real.com/resources/new-movie-trailers-previews

This is a new adaptation of a classic novel, not just a remake of a movie. That's a necessary distinction to make here! They're not remaking Brian DePalma...they're re-adapting Stephen King. With a really solid cast and high production value. Why all the backlash?

Chloe is a solid actor but terribly miscast here. She is very difficult to buy as a wallflower/outcast. Julianne Moore is a better fit for the mother but has huge shoes to fill in that role. "Carrie" (the original) stands up well even today so a remake will only pale in comparison. Get some fresh ideas Hollywood!

@jeffekennedy I'm surprised they remade it. The first one was good as is.

@Branli they've run out of ideas / guts to try new things and are remaking everything again. @jeffekennedy
