When news broke that the Purple One could be making his debut appearance at SXSW, the internet almost buckled under the weight of excited tweets from fans eager to see the enigmatic star play one of his legendary live shows. While the Prince appearance isn’t yet confirmed, an unnamed source told Hitfix that Prince will be taking the stage later this week at La Zona Rosa. In advance of his appearance, rumors are swirling that Prince, being rock and roll royalty, isn’t satisfied with the venue’s normal stage and has asked for a few modifications. And because Prince gets what Prince wants, he is reportedly getting a specially remodeled stage to better accomodate a 22-piece band. All the better for a chance to hear his new track “Screwdriver” without having to dole out $1.77, the (seemingly arbitrary) cost of a download from his website.
Don’t expect to be able watch to watch the show online. The artist formerly known as The Artist Formerly Known as Prince is famously strict in ensuring that his image and his work don’t appear online without permission, so there’s little chance that the video below will be on YouTube for long.
