A commemorative poster, celebrating the 84 Best Picture winners from 1927 to 2012, was just unveiled by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Designed by illustrator Olly Moss, the poster (viewable here) depicts the iconic statuette dressed up to reflect a particular Best Picture. Click here to view a gallery showcasing each of the films.

One Oscar, barely recognizable under the protective gear of an EOD tech, honors 2009’s The Hurt Locker, while another, stretching towards a finish-line tape, pays tribute to 1981’s Chariots of Fire. Many, like the one wearing a dark suit with a red carnation in its lapel, are wonderfully recognizable (1972’s The Godfather and 1974’s The Godfather Part II), some are rather clever (like the “imaginary” statuette representing 2001’s A Beautiful Mind), and more than a few might only be divined by the true film geek. How many movies can you identify?
