It’s totally unrealistic, predictable and delicious, i.e. a B-movie. To save the charter for their unconventional fraternity, the brothers of Lambda Epsilon Omega have to compete in a scholastic tournament. In a wildly unexpected twist, Will Ferrell—a.k.a. Frank the Tank—is pitted against Democratic strategist James Carville for the debate event. (You know, the “Ragin’ Cajun” behind the phrase It’s the economy, stupid.) The evil Dean Gordon Pritchard, played by Jeremy Piven in the Todd Phillips comedy, asks the first question: “What is your position on the role of government in supporting innovation in the field of biotechnology?” As Ferrell starts to answer, his team is understandably worried that he’s out of his depth. But in another wildly unexpected twist, the beer-guzzler is possessed by a wonky demon who makes him use nouns like “systematic research grants.” Classic.
Fighting Words: “That’s the way you do it! That’s the way you debate!”
