Comedian Louis CK, mastermind behind the FX show Louie, announced today that the series—the third season of which ended last month—would not return to television in mid-2013 as planned. Instead, having requested “more time to create Season 4,” according to the New York Times, he will begin producing that season about a year from now, with an expected premiere in the spring of 2014. “He needs a bit of a break,” explained FX’s president John Landgraf, writes the Hollywood Reporter. CK, who is the Louie‘s star, director, writer and editor, won an Emmy for the show’s writing this year.

One thought as to what CK may be doing during the hiatus: he’s got a tour starting tomorrow in Milwaukee, with dates planned through February 1, when he has two back-to-back gigs at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. And, you know, he might also be using the time to bring viewers an even grander next season.

TIME’s James Poniewozik expressed that view on Twitter:

But appreciation for the delicate nature of the creative process only goes so far: a follow-up tweet confirmed that responses to the hiatus came with an average of roughly six o’s per “noooooo.”
