Despite being nominated for a BET Award for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist — and having Beyonce post her track “Marilyn Monroe” on her Tumblr — Perry has yet to become a household name. There’s little doubt that will soon change, though. After all, the Miami-based rapper has been working on her brash, effortless, addictive flow since the age of three, according to BET, and was signed to Missy Elliott’s label as a teen. Reminiscent of both MC Lyte and Foxy Brown, Perry has some notable boosters including hip-hop impresario Rick Ross. The rapper isn’t taking her career lightly, either. While she is now signed to Atlantic Records, she is also working on a business degree at the University of Miami.
