The bulk Hemsworth attained for Thor was a constant effort of careful food intake (and a lot of it), rest and a heavy weight-filled workout routine, constantly varied to keep his muscles guessing. While he may have never lifted weights before prepping for his Thor role, his body, accustomed to physical activity, responded just fine. After all, the God of Thunder needed to pack the punch his name intended.
