The third season of the hit show Downton Abbey won’t premiere on PBS in the U.S. until January 6, 2013, but Britain’s ITV posted clips from the new season on its YouTube channel this past weekend. While the Brits will start enjoying the third season next month, these clips should give Yankee fans a much-needed Downton fix.

In a high-profile addition to the show, Oscar-winning actress Shirley MacLaine joins the Downton cast as Martha Levinson, the mother of Lady Cora (Elizabeth McGovern), the Countess of Grantham. Martha visits the estate from America, and seems to clash deliciously with the Dowager Countess, played by fellow Oscar-winner Maggie Smith.
In the first clip, we can tell that the Dowager has not lost any of her signature snark, based on her reaction to news that Martha will be in town. And in the second video, we can see one reason why the Dowager is so dour: Martha can match her quip to quip.
