Nicolas Cage, Harrison Ford in The Expendables 3?

The threequel could see Stallone and Schwarzenegger teaming up with big names like Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford and Nicolas Cage

And you thought The Expendables 2 had every big-name action film star… Just wait for The Expendables 3. Without a firm agreement from Lionsgate that a third installment will even go forward—although a successful opening on Aug. 17 of the sequel could solidify that move quickly—producer Avi Lerner is already lining up new names. Big new names.

The first signed on to join the ever-growing list of stars in The Expendables franchise is Nicolas Cage. And Lerner has other offers on the table, as reported by Total Film, to Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford, Mickey Rourke and even the jailed Wesley Snipes (he is scheduled for a July 2013 release from prison, which could work out just swell for filming of the new movie).

(TAKE OUR POLL: Which Expendables 2 Star Is Most Expendable?)

With a beefed-up second version  featuring Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham (he’s in every action movie, right?), Liam Hemsworth, Terry Crews, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Randy Couture and the over-the-top trio of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme, the prospect of adding even more star power to a third installment means we’ll see a lot of things getting shot, blown up or otherwise destroyed in some spectacular, fiery fashion. After all, everyone needs their due; you can’t have an action movie without the action stars taking aim.

Lerner, in an effort to continue growing his ever-ballooning list of action films, has reportedly already gotten the “yes” from Cage, saying “we’ve got” him and has offers into Ford (“we’re talking”), Snipes and Eastwood, even if the latter is a long shot. Rourke, who was in the first movie, would be welcome back “if he won’t be too crazy.”

If The Expendables 2 director, Simon West, returns for the third installment—remember, this is still if there is a third movie—he would reunite with Cage, his star in the 1997 movie Con Air.

The Expendables, a group of mercenaries, spend the second movie fighting off the bad guys, who also happen to have six tons of weapons-grade plutonium on hand that could destroy the world, en route to a bit of payback for a murder, have a need to use plenty of explosives. An Expendables 3 offering could offer a new kind of explosive mix.

I'm not surprised that Cage said yes since he still owes the IRS a lot of money. Seagal should definitely be in expendables 3 even though he has issues with lerner.

Cage and Ford are not really action hero types, they played mostly adventurer roles which is not the same, otherwise you can classify Brendan Fraser, Michael Douglas, and Noah Wyle as Expendables material. Clint Eastwood's tough cop/cowboy persona also doesn't really fit in with the blazing guns+explosions+fisticuffs action hero type.

Snipes gets the nod. I would also suggest Steven Seagal, Sho Kosugi, and Mel Gibson as icons of past action films who can be given roles.

My vote goes to Rourke and Snipes!!
