Played by: Elizabeth Berkley
Now regarded as something of a high-camp curiosity, Showgirls once enjoyed some mild infamy for: (1) being the first NC-17 movie to be given a wide major-studio release, and (2) getting buried under an avalanche of scathing reviews, a handful that proclaimed the film to be among the worst of all time. The story is wondrously overwrought and follows the career path of Nomi, an ambitious drifter with a dark past, as she determinedly (and sometimes violently) pursues her goal of becoming the Queen Bitch of Las Vegas. Elizabeth Berkley, the blonde over-achiever of TV’s Saved by the Bell, played Nomi—it was her widely-panned performance that, according to Hollywood lore, effectively derailed her movie career.
