Meat Loaf had more than two dozen TV and film credits before Fight Club — mostly small parts in movies like Wayne’s World or lead roles in TV projects like To Catch a Yeti. But in David Fincher’s vision of the bruising Chuck Palahniuk novel, the certified rock star (whose 1977 album Bat Out of Hell has sold more than 40 million copies) struck gold as “Bob” Paulson, the hulking-but-sweet testicular-cancer survivor who literally takes Edward Norton’s Narrator — a “tourist” who haunts support groups — into his fleshy embrace.
OTHER NOTEWORTHY PERFORMANCE(S): He’s not too bad as the truck-driver-turned-rock-show-tech star of Roadie, and, of course, is quite great as Eddie (an ex-delivery boy) in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
