Ghost: The Musical was trashed by the critics and passed in most of the major Tony categories. Why? Matthew Warchus’ production (which got a much friendlier reception in London) does a skillful and sincere job of translating the hit 1990 movie to the stage, with dazzling special effects and the most striking use of video projections I’ve yet seen on stage. Yet the show only got two technical nominations, plus a featured actress nod for Da’Vine Joy Randolph (in the role that won Whoopi Goldberg an Oscar) as the fake medium who bring back together a couple divided by death.
