Today’s Movie Trailer: Prometheus Makes Us Want to Buy a Michael Fassbender

Saying something doesn’t necessarily make it so. To hear star Michael Fassbender and director Ridley Scott talk about Prometheus over the past several months, you’d think it was the worst thing imaginable for the film to be a prequel to Scott’s 1979 work Alien.

So, now that we can actually see more footage from the film, starring Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace and Idris Elba, it’s pretty clear that the movie is precisely what they said it wasn’t. In the first trailer, we saw everything from vertical lines that transform into the movie’s title (reminiscent of the simple and effective trailer for the original film) to a brief appearance of the space jockey to the very prominent shots of the derelict spacecraft in which the crew of the Nostromo will eventually find a chamber full of face huggers, and we knew were were deep in Alien mythology. The newest trailer finds a very creepy Michael Fassbender foreshadowing the Bishop and Ash characters. “I understand human emotions, although I do not feel them myself,” he says, as a tear runs down his face. We like.
