CLIENT: Nike
YEAR: 2008
The Nike spot tells the parallel making-of stories behind NFL stars LaDainian Tomlinson and Troy Polamalu, reaching its on-field climax when the running back slams into the strong safety. Their tales take on the weight of creation myth when set behind the propulsive music: a remix of Ennio’s Morricone’s “The Ecstasy of Gold” from the spaghetti Western classic The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly.
ON A SCALE OF 1 (LOW) TO 10 (HIGH), HOW WELL DOES THIS SPOT REFLECT THE DIRECTOR’S STYLE OR SENSIBILITY? (5) Like many of his movies, it’s a tight and efficiently told story with handsome production values, but there’s not much that clearly identifies it as a piece by Fincher.
