With 82-year-olds Christopher Plummer and Max von Sydow favorites to win the Best Supporting Actor category, this year’s ceremony will likely set a record for the oldest performer to win an acting Oscar. Von Sydow is eight months older than Plummer, and both are almost two years older than the next-oldest Oscar winner to lay claim to that honor, actress Jessica Tandy, who won Best Actress for 1989’s Driving Miss Daisy. She’s closely followed by George Burns, who was also 80 when he won Best Supporting Actor for The Sunshine Boys.
