“When the truly great artists leave us, their legacy lives on,” Alicia Keys said at the beginning of her Etta James tribute with Bonnie Raitt. It was a nice nod to Whitney Houston’s passing, even though she and Raitt were onstage to pay tribute to another great voice that recently went silent: Etta James. Keys belted out James’ classic tune with help from Raitt, but the performance seemed abbreviated. Was it cut short? Houston deserves the recognition she’s getting tonight, but not at the expense of Etta.
