Both version of George Romero’s sequel to Night of the Living Dead feature a pregnant mother trying to survive the zombie apocalypse. Yet it is Zack Snyder’s 2004 remake that goes all the way with the idea. The infected mother-to-be dies, comes back as a zombie, and gives birth to an ugly zombie baby. The survivors then have to shoot the baby. Everything about the scene is frightening, ugly, disgusting and reprehensible (how many films can you cite in which a main character kills a newborn), which is precisely why it’s such a perfect horror movie moment.
