Project Gotham is a lean and efficient hybrid, a well-built fusing of the city-as-race-course sensibility of Ridge Racer with the attention-to-real-world-details philosophy of Gran Turismo. And in 2005, the third installment in the series was the beneficiary of the greatly improved processing muscle (and increased storage capacity) that came with the then-new Xbox 360. PGR2, running on the original Xbox, could display as many as 10,000 shape-building polygons; PGR3 had no problem handling five times that number (which is 50,000, just between you and me). All that graphical horsepower resulted in lotsa eye-candy, like the nicely rendered urban environments and the real-time reflections that slid across the metal surfaces of your car. Not that it ultimately mattered, as such details were hard to notice when crossing the Brooklyn Bridge at 178 miles per hour.
