On Monday night, our stars stepped to the beat of Broadway. At the end of that episode, a ten-point spread separated frontrunners Ricki Lake and J.R. Martinez from low scorer Chaz Bono. Talk show host Nancy Grace doggedly rose to third place on a surprising wave of positive comments from the judges.

That same trio kicked off last night’s results show by asking J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff for an encore performance of their impressive quickstep to tunes from Chicago. And just in case the show didn’t feel repetitive enough, Broadway chanteuse Kristen Chenoweth returned for her own repeat performance. Because that’s what America wanted.

But we digress. Who got eliminated??

The verdict: Chaz Bono cha cha’d his way off stage. The 42-year old author and activist received the evening’s lowest score after a lackluster tango left the judges unimpressed. But the show’s first transgender contestant also left the show in good spirits, despite some behind-the-scenes footage that revealed the star was less than thrilled with some of the comments he received from the judges. Most notably, the one comparing his Phantom of the Opera to a penguin, which made him feel like a “fat troll dancing with a beautiful woman.”

Best previously unseen clip: Last night, soccer star Hope Solo delivered a weak performance that resulted in low scores from the judges. Her position was not helped when partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy rushed to her defense. The Ukrainian pro got in touch with his inner Mad Maks and managed to first offend judge Len Goodman and then judge Carrie-Ann Inaba, followed by offending everyone else on the cast by proclaiming, “This is my show.” In a previously unseen clip from Monday’s show, we got to see the judges react to Maks’ arrogance—Carrie Ann Inaba’s jaw dropped faster than shares of Netflix stock.

Truest statement: Following a recap of Maks’ tantrum, Brooke sighed, “It’s just as awkward the second time around.”

Best Bergeron-ism: After last night’s shenanigans, Maks apologized on camera and reassured the audience that it, in fact, is not his show alone and that he’s actually part of a very large cast. Host Tom Bergeron sighed, “Damn, and I was going to ask him for a raise.”

Best song: “Love You Through It,” sung by Martina McBride and danced to by Chelsie Hightower and Val Chmerkivoskiy. It was a lovely interlude on a night of high anxiety.

Best dance: Pros Lacey Schwimmer and Mark Ballas joined a troupe of pint-sized ghouls and goblins for a performance to “This is Halloween” from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Dancers both big and small were creepy, adorable and somehow managed to build excitement for next week’s Halloween-themed performances.
