If you’re looking for shirtless men, this movie has a few hundred to spare. Based on Frank Miller’s comic-book series, Zack Snyder’s gruesomely glorified account of the Battle of Thermopylae, which pits the noble Spartans against the unscrupulous Persians, has been widely criticized for its misleading interpretation of history. But whatever 300 lacks in historical accuracy, it makes up for in rippling torsos. The soldiers of Sparta are evidently so brave that they don’t even bother with shirts before heading to war. As the conflict rages on, blood spatters and heads roll, but the beefy muscles flex on. Sure, almost everything about this film is digitally enhanced, but we’re definitely not complaining.
