Team Loco Alert: TBS Cancels Lopez Tonight

After two years–and a move from 11 p.m. to midnight to make room for Conan O’Brien–TBS is canceling George Lopez’s talk show, Lopez Tonight. The last show is tomorrow, so it’s going to be a busy 24 hours of finale writing.

I can’t say I’ve watched the show extensively in recent months, but Lopez fans could look at this from a few potential perspectives. You could blame Conan: the move to midnight can’t have been a boost to ratings in the long-term, and Conan’s own lead-in ratings have declined over time. You can blame Conan: it was probably unlikely TBS would have kept two talk shows on unless the ratings were phenomenal, so the writing may have been on the wall from the get-go. Or you can just blame business: Lopez’s ratings have fallen off even in proportion to Conan’s.

In any case, maybe it’s time for a national Team Loco stage tour. The announcement after the jump:

TBS has reached the difficult decision not to order a third season of Lopez Tonight. Thursday will be the final episode of the show. We are proud to have partnered with George Lopez, who is an immensely talented comedian and entertainer. TBS has valued its partnership with George and appreciates all of his work on behalf of the network, both on and off the air.
