Though Brittany Murphy starred in a handful of hit movies, when the actress passed away at the age of 32, obituaries highlighted her role in Clueless as the one that made her career. In 1995’s Clueless, Murphy starred as Tai Frasier, the adorably “to’ up” transplant student, whom Cher (Alicia Silverstone) decides to take under her wing. To make her one of the most popular girls in school, Cher dresses Tai in fancy clothes, teaches her some makeup and man tips, gives her a Buns of Steel workout and fancy new vocabulary. She even tries to set her up with one of the most popular boys in school. But after Tai gets her heart broken by Elton, whom she calls Elt-in, she learns that the most important parts of her personality will not be washed away like that awful red hair dye. She winds up happily in love with Travis Birkenstock (Breckin Meyer), but not before she goes through a phase of bitchiness during which she delivers one of the best insults in the film: “Why would I listen to you anyway? You’re a virgin who can’t drive.” Way harsh.
