TIME throws its annual Time 100 gala again tonight in Manhattan, a party that, like the list itself, brings together world leaders, innovators and celebrities in one place and, unlike the list, forces them to share oxygen with nerdy journalists like myself. (Follow me on Twitter if you want to see what I might say about the event tonight once I’ve gotten a few drinks in me.)

The TIME 100 issue came out while I was away last week, and it includes several folks from TV or TV-related endeavors, among them: Amy Poehler, Matthew Weiner, Joe Scarborough, Blake Lively, Oprah Winfrey, Chris Colfer, George R. R. Martin (novelist on whose books Game of Thrones is based) and Cory Booker (mayor of Newark and sometime star of Sundance’s Brick City). (Before you ask: like everyone on staff, I sent in suggestions, but the final roster was selected well above my pay grade, so I couldn’t say why any particular individual did or didn’t make the list.)

Ricky Gervais, onetime TIME 100 honoree, shares some thoughts about the list above: “It’s always good to be part of an arbitrary list.” And to make one up, Ricky. And to make one up.

[Update: I’m having trouble getting the embedded Gervais video to play–here’s a link in the meantime.]
