“There isn’t even a battle scene at the climax,” complained TIME critic Harold Livingston about 1979′s Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Hollywood’s sleepy first attempt at adapting the sci-fi television series for the big screen. The sequel definitely does not suffer from that problem. Faster paced, displaying a sense of humor lacking in the first, full of campy and iconic Trek moments (Ricardo Montalban’s entire performance as “Khaaaan!”) and showing off more than its share of photon-torpedo space attacks, Wrath of Khan arrived just in time to save the Trek movie franchise.
