The Morning After: Upping the Body Count

Showtime

I jumped off the regular Dexter train a couple of seasons back, around the time the series stopped being a drama about the attempt of a sociopathic killer to assimilate into society and became a successful drama that had to potentially run many, many seasons. In other words: when it became clear that Dexter would have to continue staying one step ahead of anyone close to him finding out his identity and, to some extent, would have to be made into a real boy.

The show is still well-executed (so to speak), but carried off this way it’s just less interesting to me. So it may be a while before I catch up with the season five finale, but for those of you who are still on board, did the finale measure up? Did season five itself?
