Having dropped out of this season’s Project Runway, it’s not really fair of me to critique the judges’ decision in last night’s finale, which I understand has been fairly controversial; to me—no spoilers here—it was justified from the final collection, but I don’t have the context of the finalists’ full-season work to go on. I will, though, make comment on the new extra-large format, which last night was further expanded to two hours. To me, it undercut the excitement of a finale to open it with a retrospective / contestants’ reunion-in-advance; on the other hand, the judging round of a finale was one place where I thought having the extra breathing room to flesh out the debate over the final collections worked.
