A typical romantic fantasy — a man and woman love each other so very much that even death can’t tear them apart — finds its apotheosis in the 1990 weepie Ghost. If we’re being 100% accurate, Ghost is technically an “I hear dead people” movie, as the spectral version of Patrick Swayze can only communicate with the outside world by speaking to a medium played by Whoopi Goldberg. But even without being seen, Swayze is almost as good a ghost boyfriend as he was a live one: sure, he can’t play with clay anymore, but he saves girlfriend Demi Moore’s life plenty of times, and even makes the word ditto sound positively dreamy.
