Greg Giraldo Dies at 44

Greg Giraldo, whose sharp and searing standup was familiar to fans of Comedy Central and Last Comic Standing, died Wednesday from the effects of a prescription drug overdose. Giraldo, a former lawyer, brought an intelligent and combative style to Comedy Central’s roasts as well as the panel of Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn and other comedy series and specials. He had a way with topical dark humor that made absurd yet substantive points, as in the above clip, in which he cites post-9/11 bachelorette parties as proof of the endurance of the American way of life.

After the jump, Jon Stewart’s tribute to Giraldo in last night’s Moment of Greg:

Spoilers for the season finale of Glee below:

One beef I often have with Glee episodes is that they move too fast, go in too many directions, try to cram in too much at once. You might say that about “Goodbye,” the season 3 finale, but in this case that approach seemed about right. It’s an episode about graduation, and graduation is something that, no matter how much you plan for and anticipate it, still goes too fast. Graduating is something you do, but in the moment it feels like something that happens to you, suddenly and all at once, like going over a waterfall.
