After last night’s season finale of Breaking Bad, AMC aired a preview of its next drama series, the conspiracy thriller Rubicon, starring James Badge Dale, which begins in August. (Actually, though I didn’t catch the airing since I saw Breaking Bad on a screener, I believe AMC aired the full pilot. Update: They did, and you can watch it on Hulu.) From what I’ve been seeing in morning-after reaction, some fans were cheesed at the airing, which showed up in electronic program guides as part of Breaking Bad, leading them to believe there would be a plus-sized season finale of that show. On the other hand, it was a plus-sized sneak-peek of a much-anticipated entry in the Next Great Mystery Show sweepstakes.
If AMC holds to form I hope to see more episodes before the debut, so I’m withholding official critical judgment, but I’m intrigued by what I’ve seen so far. For those of you who watched: will you be back for more, or did the preview (or the scheduling) turn you off?
For that matter, the floor is open to HBO viewers who—in addition to a snippet of Game of Thrones—saw another promising clip from fall’s Boardwalk Empire. Or for those of you who ditched the whole business to watch the Tony Awards. I believe that you exist!
