[ITALIC “Shrek Forever After”], which opened this May, is supposed to be the final installment of DreamWorks’ green-ogre franchise. Even for devoted fans of Far Far Away, this is likely to come as a relief. If we truly love Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, Puss in Boots, the Gingerbread Man, Pinocchio and the rest of the gang, we need to be able to let them go. Not only have there been four Shrek movies in less than a decade, but also a musical version on Broadway. That production shuttered, though a national tour is still to come.
