Over the weekend, Survivor officially turned ten years old, having given us a decade of assorted and sundry competition reality shows (as well as the inspiration for Lost). Yesterday, on Survivor’s tenth birthday, the website Reality Blurred delivered quite a present: a leaked copy of the nine-page rule book given contestants on the show. Among the provisions are stipulations about the prize money, rules on interactions among players (some of which, the site notes, Russell Hantz would appear to have broken, such as the rule against damaging property) and procedures regarding eliminations.

The one tantalizing detail that the document doesn’t spell out is what happens in case of a three-way tie at tribal council; that, like many other things, is to be disposed of at the discretion of “the Producer.” In any case, for Survivor scholars—and certainly after ten years they must teach college courses on it, right?—it’s an interesting read.
