The Morning After: Bride and Prejudice

No time for a full-on review of How I Met Your Mother‘s “The Wedding Bride” this morning, but I know some of you have thoughts, so here’s a post to discuss it (or any other Monday-night TV you care to). In short, I thought the intentionally broad movie clips (with Chris Kattan as a movie version of Ted) were amusing enough, but it seemed like a bit of a waste, both of the promising set-up of “The Wedding Bride” a year ago, and of the wonderful Judy Greer. But feel free to make an obnoxious alternative version of me fall over in his chair if you disagree.

I actually really enjoyed last night’s How I Met Your Mother. I thought the storyline finally made Ted likeable again and that’s something that the show has really been struggling to do this season. Now about that final scene… way to ruin such a good episode with a throwaway.

I’ve got a full review at: here on my site.

…I enjoyed the episode, but I would have liked it more were Ted not the focus of the main storyline; nothing against him but I feel he is the weak link among the friends, in terms of likability and charm…

Really disliked last night’s Chuck. They’re starting to rely on the hoary “let’s all act like idiots and not tell each other anything” mechanism to advance the plot. I’m ready for next season, when hopefully none of the episodes feel rushed.

HIMYM was pretty bad. They should replace Ted with Judy Greer. But with Judy Greer playing a non 2-d character. Seriously, how do you write a bland Judy Greer character?

24 was really fun. That’s what 24 is supposed to be, just nonsensical violence and badassery.

House had the dumbest, worst ending to any show’s season in awhile.

HIMYM was alright – the ‘Marshall is too nice’ subplot was good. He and Lily crack me up. I was a bit thrown by the Barney inserts – I know he’s crass, but that was a bit much. I was glad they put in the self-examining “Why are you all still friends with me?” line, though. As for the Ted/movie storyline, I just hope they can finally be done w/ the ‘I’m wounded and damaged and whiny’ stuff. I’d much rather go back to chasing the yellow umbrella.

Haven’t watched Chuck yet, so can’t comment on last night specifically. But overall, I’m pretty disappointed w/ the season so far. I do like Chuck and Sarah together, but not the way they’re going about it. And they’ve got to find a way (budgeting or otherwise) to get more of the peripheral characters involved. It’s just not the same w/o the Buy More crew and Awesome.

I forget – do you follow Big Bang? Last night’s ep was a lot of fun. I know it’s sort of cliche for sitcoms to do flashback episodes, but it was really cool to see how Sheldon and Leonard and the gang all got together. It helped explain the underlying ‘why on earth would anyone be friends with Sheldon’ question. It was also nice to see Leonard and Penny back to what made them great together.
